I have been aware for many years that one of the great motivators for me to do the work I do is to make the world a better place for future generations… if you ever gazed at a newborn child, you have seen the vulnerability and the trust it must take to be born … and I have grieved much knowing that this world so often has not been worthy of that trust… having come from country that had been under colonial domination and exploitation for centuries and then been witness to how the people of my Island home have turned their pain of oppression and exploitation and generational trauma against each other and all the horrors of war…I have been too aware that this world is so not worthy of that trust with which infants are born into this world… and so I have tried to do my part to contribute to something different for future generations… to leave this world a little bit better than I found it.
I do this In my way, with whatever skill and energy I have. My work has been one of training and facilitating groups… today, I did another piece of that work and want to share and celebrate… having just finished a DNVC (Decoloniz/ed Nonviolent Communication) for an inspiring group of people (from a non profit org in the Netherlands called Vrolijkheid) who work with children in refugee camps, giving them art, music and other creative workshops and opportunity to express and play in joyful activities amidst their difficult life situation (staying in temporary camps, without having papers or legal status and not knowing if they will get them, etc.,). I feel honored and glad to be able to contribute to them and through them to the young people (and their families) whom they impact.
