“We were all really inspired by the warm, curious and open environment you created even over Zoom, and the gentle but purposeful journey you took us on – I hope you got some sense of this in the gratitude session at the end, and in some of the feedback on the previous days” – Communications Team from Friends of the Earth Europe
FOEE is a pan European grassroots environmental network working to protect people and the planet and I (along with my phenomenal co-trainer Meera Ghani) were honored to be asked to support them to grow further in awareness around issues of power/privilege/race in context of equity and inclusion within the organization as well as their work in the world.
Our approach allows us to support participants in seeing the connections between their beliefs and values and the needs that are motivating their actions. And to have self-compassion if their actions are not aligned with their deepest values. Through this approach, we reach for compassion as we learn to make the connection between the personal to the interpersonal and the structural. Through working with these layered interconnections participants can discover how their individual and group actions contribute to sustaining the larger unequal systems and how to make different choices going forward.
Topics ranged from Implicit and Organizational Bias to Worldviews & Monoculturalism to White Supremacy & Racial Justice to Environmental Privilege and Injustice to Colonialism and Climate and more.
